What Can Cause Thinning Hair?

When the hair follicle suffers from poor blood flow or a hormone by-product called Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hair follicle progressively diminishes until it’s permanently gone. Stress, diet, and lack of exercise can also be factors.

The Hair Growth Cycle

You may think you are losing hair based on the amount you see in the shower or tub every time you shampoo. Do not worry. The average person sheds up to 100 hairs a day. That is not bad when you consider the average person is considered to have 1000 hairs per square inch. Some of it has to go! It is part of a natural hair growth cycle that has three phases:

  • Growth (Anagen),
  • Resting (Telogen) and
  • Shedding (Catagen).

Help For Thinning Hair

There are many ways to have thicker fuller hair. Wigs or hairpieces are always a great option. Taking vitamin supplements can help or the use of a keratin fiber that is shaken into the hair to fill in thin spots are a few more temporary solutions.

Technology has come a long way in the area of hair care. In recent years, laser treatments have been introduced to stimulate blood circulation and help grow hair. Ask your stylist what he or she knows about this, and get their opinion on whether laser technology might be a good solution for you.
